I bought my first mac, on September 28, 2009. Elegance, power, and ability to have the best of both world (Unix & Great Graphics) simply made my choice of moving to a mac an easy decision. Yesterday on my way back to Minneapolis after WikiSym conference I found out that Steve Jobs lost his battle against the cancer. I am Sad to hear the lost of world’s greatest designer & a visionary. I feel I am lucky to be born in this era to experience Steve Jobs creations. RIP Steve Jobs, You changed the way we think.

Power of Wikipedia: Italian Wiki Shuts down to protest against wiretap

This shows the power of the wikipedia, Yesterday I was working on putting together some research questions to the project that I plan to work with Paolo Massa and checked my wikipedia user page on italian wiki. First I didn’t understand what was written so I translated and I realized that Italian Wiki has started to protest against the new wire tap act. This shows the power of open collaboration and especially in wikipedia.

I am currently attending WikiSym Conference and its great to see that all the hard work that we put on the gender paper getting rewarded. First we won the best paper award and during the paper presentation audience had great questions along with compliments for the work that we carried out.

Indulging myself with Cosby Show

I have always been a great fan of The Cosby Show. I remember watching it over and over but never had the opportunity to really fallow it continuously season after season. Thanks to Netflix I have been watching The Cosby show from the top all over again. There were so many series that I had miss before, but not this time. To add a cherry on the top, on season 8, episode 4 Mrs Huxtable mention Sri Lanka . Sometimes I see myself in the Cosby Show.

To Mississippi River and back via Midtown Greenway

I have been using Ceder Lake Bike trail to go to down town. But I am so glad that finally they opened the trail through twin stadium which connects to Mississippi River and the bike trail along the river. So last weekend I took that all the way to the river and on my way back I took the Midtown Greenway. It was a great ride and here and you can see the route along with my stats by clicking the map.

Ride to downtown and back-32 miles

This is my regular ride to down town Minneapolis from Shelard Parkway. I start right from my apartment complex get to ceder lake trail by following shelard parkway and taking some back roads towards Ceder Lake Road.

Its a great trial and round trip gives me a 32 mile ride. I only recorded one way since my battery was dying.

Mason Neck hiking

So we decided to explore little beyond Alexandria and the old town. Hike in Mason Neck park. Trails were not long at least the once we took, and Niva was complaining most of the time saying (in exact her words “This ins not a hike, hiking should include hills”) I was happily clicking away my Cannon and capturing the beauty of the women next to me and the beauty of the mother nature.

Semester is done and I am flying to my nest…

It was a fantastic semester, I was super busy with the research work on Wikipedia and Gender gap. We put together a fantastic publication and I have a feeling its going to be a good one. Also, Web 2.0 class was an absolute thrill. Completed four major projects in YUI 3, GWT, Silverlight, and Android. I should write my experience in each technology at some point but for now I am taking a small break before I dive into my next research topic possibly the foundation for the next publication. So as wise-man once told there is women behind every successful man, so I am taking sometime off to spend some time with the women behind my success, which means I am heading to beautiful Alexandria where my beautiful women lives. Have a great summer everyone… (for some reason Minnesota haven’t got the Summer Memo yet)

Our First Sri Lankan New Year

So, I flew to D.C this weekend, it worked out perfectly. Its the weekend of Sri Lankan new year, and it was our first new year together and we made kiribath and sinisambol. It was fantastic, we added brown sugar to part of our kiribath and it was mind blowing. This was the best Sri Lankan new year I have had after moving to U.S.

First Ride in 2011 Spring

With Research and school my workout schedule has been shattered. I cant remember when I saw a gym last time. Anyhow weather was fabulous so I decided to take the bike out for a ride for the first time. I had lot of head wind but I realized my stamina and strength has gone down massively. I had my tracking turned on but for some reason it had crash maybe it was a good thing that I didn’t see how long it took for the 26mile ride.
