To Mississippi River and back via Midtown Greenway

Posted: June 23rd, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Cycling | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

I have been using Ceder Lake Bike trail to go to down town. But I am so glad that finally they opened the trail through twin stadium which connects to Mississippi River and the bike trail along the river. So last weekend I took that all the way to the river and on my way back I took the Midtown Greenway. It was a great ride and here and you can see the route along with my stats by clicking the map.

First Ride in 2011 Spring

With Research and school my workout schedule has been shattered. I cant remember when I saw a gym last time. Anyhow weather was fabulous so I decided to take the bike out for a ride for the first time. I had lot of head wind but I realized my stamina and strength has gone down massively. I had my tracking turned on but for some reason it had crash maybe it was a good thing that I didn’t see how long it took for the 26mile ride.

Tracking my Rides using Android App My Track

Summer is almost done and just firing up in all cylinders to get my latest research proposal complete. I will be diving in to Fractal Dimensions. Ok Thats all I am going to talk about it for now because, this My Tracks application is way more interesting than Fractals. Best part about is after the ride it allows me to upload map and data about the ride into Google maps and Google docs. So these are the two routes that I ride most commonly at least till the snow hits the ground.

Both routes are flat but around the Lake Medicine you get inclines which has 6-7% grade but they are short and fun because most of the time lake is on your right (depends on if you ride clockwise around the lake).

Monsoon Like rain in Minneapolis

Posted: August 20th, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Cycling | Tags: | No Comments »

I love rain. But when it rains I cant get on the saddle and enjoy a good bike ride. Past three days in Minneapolis reminded me Monsoon like rain that we get back home (Sri Lanka). Mother nature has its own plan and no one can disobey to that, so we have to wait and see until it gives a chance for the sun to show its power. Till then my Trek will be having a well needed rest.

Rider’s Log: Day after 75 Mile ride.

Posted: August 4th, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Cycling, Travel arround the world | Tags: , | No Comments »

Surprisingly I felt very good on Sunday morning no pain in my legs, more that my legs it was my ass which was hurting after sitting just over 5 hours on the saddle. Evening I went for a short 25mile ride just to stretch out the legs as well as to get the lactic acid that was build up. During the 25mile ride I felt like I was riding some crazy mountain, i think it was my lactic acid.

Ride for Charity: Tour De Tonka 75 Mile Ride

Posted: August 2nd, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Cycling | No Comments »

Did a 75 mile charity ride Tour De Tonka a charity for Minnetonka Community ride. Entire ride we had to deal with head wind in the range of 20-25mph. Climbing became hard especially against the head wind. Last 8-12 miles were uphill. Last two climbs were harder than I thought and I think they were 8%-10%.

Here we are before group start, 2200 cyclist participated the event and it was well organized.

Here is the Tour route, Hopefully I will get to do another tour before the summer ends, Its going fast and here in Minnesota we are already talking about the state fair which means end of the summer.

Getting ready for Saturday Tour De Tonka 75 mile bike ride. Did a 30 mile ride starting from my apartment and got into Regional Trail and rode to downtown Minneapolis and came back via same route. It was a good fast ride since pretty much entire route was a flat one. Last week I did a tune up on my Trek and this is the third ride I am doing after the tune and bike sounds excellent

Rider’s Log: Flat Tire

Posted: July 21st, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Cycling, Its all about me | Tags: | No Comments »

Yesterday, I was doing my regular ride around Lake Medicine, I had already completed 2/3 of the ride. If I had to take a guess, I think I had about 3 miles from the place where my tire got punch to my apartment. Rear tire of my Trek 1000, 2007. I didn’t have repair kit or cartridge to pump and see what really happened luckily I met two gentlemen who were riding (Laszlo, Former Pro-rider/ Dave) and they helped me by providing their extra tubes and helped me to get the bike on road in no time. If it wasn’t for them I would be walking with clip-on shoes for about three miles.
