Running Selenium Automation on Multiple Browsers

Posted: December 11th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Java Ruled, Selenium | Tags: | No Comments »

The current customized selenium framework I build for my employer has multiple features running on reporting, run using Hudson build process, execute tests in multiple browsers, high re-usability and ability to develop tests in a rapid pace. But according to the way I build it originally prior to execution selenium.default.properties file needed to be edited to execute the test in a different browser but I wanted to take out that manual intervention and make the entire process automated. The framework I build supported by ant build process, and .properties files are used to store default values for selenium server and application settings. Such as timing, browser, etc. To automate the multiple browser process, I decided to pass a system variable to JVM via ant and access that in my class where I setup selenium server settings to execute the test framework. Based on the user input it will tally that with the properties file and execute the test on the browser that user has asked the selenium server to run the test on.

Following screen shots will show the my approach to automate the multiple test execution in multiple browser plat forms.

Ant target to execute all Selenium Tests

Department offered me the assistantship

Posted: December 8th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Its all about me, Life & Us | Tags: | No Comments »

I had a feeling that I am going to get an email from U of M CS department related to my assistantship, I went to work and open up my email and there was the email they offered me the assistantship and even before I thought about anything I picked up the phone and call mage.adare.co.lk to tell the news and we both were thrilled because this is going to help us so much that I don’t even have words to describe how much burden will take off from our shoulders. I believe if you are qualified enough, hard working but most importantly if you have that attitude of never giving up then things can workout even without the luck.

Hope to wake up NMA…

Last night Minneapolis got some crazy amount of snow, then again its not a surprise because its Minneapolis. And I am thrilled that our Mini Cooper S cuts through 6-7 inches of snow like butter. I was suppose to fly out from Minneapolis at 5.50am and with half hour my flights go cancel, and I got pushed to 8am flight, then 1pm flight finally it stopped at 3.30pm. I managed to talk to American Airline and get me into one of their partner carrier flight USAirways which was scheduled to leave at 6.45am. But when I got to the airport that flight was delayed until 9.30am. I went back to American Airlines counter and ask if they can put me in any flight so thanks to the weather they can put in any airline as long as they have enough seats. So they put me 7.25am Delta DIRECT flight to D.C which is a fantastic deal. So, I never thought I would say this, I like to thank the snow storm. Hopefully, I get to wake NMA…

Posting while up in the air

Traveling back to boring MSP after visiting my better half is always a tough task. But today i got to the flight as usual the last one to get to the flight, and I heard in flight announcement which informed the passengers about free online wifi because of the holiday season. So, Delta has teamed up and they are providing free online wifi during this holiday season and right now I am using that free online wifi service to chat with my better half while flying 30,000 feet above the ground. I also used Google voice to contact her but since I cant really turn the speakers on and I didn’t have my ear phones I was not able to really have a conversation. So all you travelers who plan to travel this holiday season take you laptop with you because you will at least be able to be with your love ones even you are flying thousand miles up in the air.

Snow God just unloaded the first batch for this season

So much for the hope of getting another week without snow. Until last Friday night Minneapolis had a great fall weather. Mild, no snow but then sometime mid night that white slushy thing started to fall from the sky. Looks like snow god decided that Minnesotans got enough nice weather and I am going to show that I still exist and you can’t do nothing about it. I love Minneapolis, I love Gopher State, I love my alma-mater but I can’t wait to get to a place where I get less snow and much longer fall. I had my share in Minneapolis and its time to spread my wings somewhere else and build a nest.

2 Days ago there was a new article (Google to give 10 pct raises to entire work force)about Google planning on doing a 10pct raises on their entire work force. But unfortunately they found the guy who leaked the new and fired him. So for sure we know that this poor Googler is not going to get his 10pct increase at all…

Google Buzz Class Action Settlement…

Posted: November 2nd, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Information Retrieval, Technology | Tags: | No Comments »

I just got an email from Google, which was bit strange because as the email says Google normally don’t contact their customers if they do It hasn’t happened to me after the the first welcome email I have gotten from them. Only other time I got an email when I got select to phone interview with Google for a Software Engineering position.

Anyway, Some Gmail users have filed a law suit against Google Buzz concerning its privacy. I thought entire point of Buzz is to be public and if you are so concern about it you should simply ignore the buzz and not participate in it. But I am also not happy how Google has been tapping into private data streams such as open networks while they capture street views. Just because you are the giant in the search industry you don’t get to do what ever you think. Remember great power comes with great responsibility.

Someone heard my prayers and she got the job

Posted: November 1st, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Its all about me, Life & Us | Tags: | No Comments »

I am super thrilled. Because for the first time I prayed I got what I asked. When I heard the news I wish she was right next to me so I could hold her. Now that I think its an interesting story, As a Buddhist I see prayers in a very different angle, I got to the temple and do meditation and do my version of prayers. But I have never specifically prayed and asked anything. But on the other hand my other half is a Hindu and she is a very strong believer of the God and she specifically has a great connection with Ganesha.

We have been looking for jobs for both of us and finally she go an interview at her current place for a full-time position. I really want her to get this, because I knew there is no one is better than her for that position. She worked hard for it and she truly deserves it. But I felt like I am useless because I cant really do anything other than motivate her and be by her side. But I realize I could really pray for her, so every time I stepped into Hindu temple and even my regular meditation version of prayers at home, I told to who ever and what ever the force that above us to make sure that all the obstacles get removed from her way. I also told I know that there is no one else better than her for this job and I know I am not asking something which is not right.

But from the time she told me she got the interview, I knew that she was going to get this job. Something told me its going to workout for her. So, she went for the interview and it was a very good interview. Next day we found out that they are already looking for the references. Then Today just about an hour ago, I got the call saying “Babe I got the job” I was over the top, What I told her is that this changes the entire ball game. I am really happy because there is no other person deserve this than her. And I always pray please make sure everyone in this world have a peaceful life but I have never prayed like the way I did in this situation. I guess someone answered my prayers. But All I know is we are super happy and thankful for everything. And one thing I forgot, we exactly did what everyone should do, eat, pray, and love.

Google just released another new product called Google Demo Slam. So far it hosted under demoslam.com domain. Google Demo Slam will be a site used to showcase cool demos that people make using Google products and technology. I am still trying to figure out exactly how this is going to work and the real difference between something like youtube and this product.
